Kelly Zhang

Kelly accepts briefs on a wide range of matters, with much of her work in commercial disputes. She has a particular focus on complex commercial litigation and arbitration and has an interest in legal work with a human element.

Kelly has appeared as trial counsel in the Supreme Court, District Court, Magistrates Court and Family Court. She is regularly briefed, unled, in these courts as well as the Children’s Court and the State Administrative Tribunal.

Kelly’s experience includes acting and advising as counsel on:

• Contract claims, including for breach of contract, breach of contractual warranties, enforcement and debt recovery;
• Construction and insurance disputes;
• Regulatory investigations including corporations law disputes;
• Claims under the ACL (including misleading or deceptive conduct claims);
• Property matters in the Family Court; and
• Family Provision Act claims and probate actions.

Prior to being called to the bar here, Kelly was a senior associate at Johnson Winter & Slattery. Kelly began her career as a junior barrister at the leading set of chambers in Auckland, New Zealand. Born in Shanghai and raised in New Zealand, Kelly is bilingual in English and Chinese.
