Phillip Lonergan
Called to the Bar in 2016, Phillip specialises in commercial litigation. He has a particular emphasis on contract disputes, ACL, directors’ duties, construction, property, equity, trade practices, and insolvency matters.
Being the owner of a large pastoral station in the Murchinson, Phillip also has a strong interest in land and water rights, mining rights, and native title litigation.
Prior to joining the Bar, Phillip was the Head of Trading in Asia for Deutsche Bank. Before that, he was the Head of Equity Derivatives in Europe, giving him a unique perspective on litigation in the commercial and financial markets space.
Mr Lonergan was awarded the degree Juris Doctor at the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with distinction. He then went on to read for his Masters of Law (LLM) at the University of Sydney. Mr Lonergan was a merit scholar in economics, majoring in econometrics and statistics, and later undertook a masters degree in Quantitative Finance at the University of Technology Sydney.
Before joining the Bar, Mr Lonergan worked in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo in the financial markets for two of the world’s largest banks.
