FBC member Matthew Curwood SC appointed as a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia

Francis Burt Chambers congratulates Matthew Curwood SC on his appointment as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia.

Mr Curwood SC was admitted to practice in WA 1993 and, prior to joining Francis Burt Chambers a decade ago, was the principal of Curwood & Co Lawyers. His practice had a particular focus on complex matters involving constructive trusts, breaches of fiduciary duties and contested probate. He took silk in 2020.

Mr Curwood has served Chambers as a director between 2015-2016 and again between 2022-2023, recently being re-elected to the Board. He has also made an outstanding contribution to the profession, as a contributor to Chambers’ own CPD program, as a contributing author to the LexisNexis publication Civil Procedure in Western Australia, and as a member of the Legal Costs Committee since 2009 (appointed as Chair in 2023).

Mr Curwood’s appointment follows the appointment of another former member of Chambers, Judge Sarah Russell, as Master of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. She had been a District Court Judge since early 2020 and is the first woman to be appointed Master of the WA Supreme Court.

We wish Mr Curwood SC the very best for this new appointment, which takes effect from 13 December.
